Understanding web page linking - links, backlinks, nofollow and all that
I would have thought all this was obvious, but I see from reading forum posts and comments at some of my other posts that people are confused, so let's take all this link/backlink stuff from square one.
20 commentsWhy you shouldn't use a Creative Commons License if you care about views or money
If you intend to make money from your writing, whether here at Hubpages or anywhere else, referencing a Creative Commons license is a bad idea. Not only won't it protect you from copying, it may actually cause MORE copying!
13 commentsIdentifying popular pages with Perl and Google Analytics
This time, we'll be doing something that would be much harder to accomplish with a spreadsheet. It's not impossible: most modern spreadsheets can do an impressive amount of work. However, when spreadsheets get complicated, it is all too easy to make mistakes and those mistakes can be much harder to spot. I think you will see that this script is actually easy enough to understand. Our task is to find out which of the pages that are earning us money are doing so over a given period of time.
1 commentAdsense Basics - what 7 years of running Adsense has taught me
If you have signed up for Google's Adsense program and figured out how to get ads running on your website or your pages on someone else's site, you may still be confused about what to do next and what to expect.
94 commentsWhat the heck is a quality web page anyway?
What is quality for Internet writing? Specifically, what does it mean with regard to writing in the hope of earning money from Adsense or affiliate programs? Let's straighten out one thing first. The only reason you want "quality" is to attract traffic. Yes, you may have other reasons. I certainly do. Pride is a good reason, isn't it? But here we are just talking about making money. I'm assuming that if junk could make you money, you'd be happy to write junk. I wouldn't be, but I'm not you.

The question of honesty in website promotion is seldom discussed. Let's explore this together and see what honesty means in this context
21 commentsI just want to write! - Is that person you?
The reason I say that is that often the folks crying out "I just want to write!" are people who are baffled and bewildered by the money making aspects of writing on the web. They know the mechanics of writing, they have figured out the mechanics of the web at least well enough that they can create a hub here or at some other site, but they don't understand the jargon thrown around about SEO, SERP, backlinks and all that.
17 commentsSmaller earning pages can account for large percentages of Adsense income
It is quite natural for us to pay attention to the big earners among our web pages. They stand out at the top of Analytics reports reports. "Hey, look at me: I made you a lot of money!". Who wouldn't pay attention to that? These are our star performers. However, the also-rans can be very important too/
27 commentsAre you a peacock?
The title is a peacock because it's a crappy title for SEO. Oh, it's clever enough, especially if you are in on the joke, right? But it doesn't give a lick of useful information to a search engine or to a potential reader who might spy it in a search results page. The title is useless pretty feathers.
3 commentsAnalyzing Adsense income with Google Analytics custom segments
If you have low traffic, Analytics isn't going to tell you much. That should be obvious, but I seldom see this mentioned when I come across articles waxing on about the wonders of Analytics. Any statistical tool needs to have a sufficient amount of data to analyze - if your traffic is a handful of visitors per day, Analytics simply isn't going to give you much insight. It can't - you don't have enough traffic.
