Reviewing my First month at HubPages
60I noticed McConnell Group's First Calendar Month at Hubpages - A Retrospective view and was very interested to read it.
I also have been here a month, so I thought it might be interesting to some to provide another Hubber's experiences. If more Hubbers did the same sort of review and we linked them together, it could provide very interesting reading for new folks and old alike.
So, let's take a look. First, let's be sure we understand our goals. Some people write at HubPages in hopes of earning money directly from advertising or affiliate sale revenue, others are here to push readers toward some other place that could provide income and some are here only for a creative outlet.
To some degree, I fall into all three categories, though the last is probably the largest draw.
Creative Outlet
There's no way to measure the creative outlet goal except perhaps to note that I put 72 hubs up in that time, so if I didn't satisfy the creative itch, it wasn't for lack of trying.
Income
As to direct income, Adsense netted me $4.72 from HubPages. I made over $900.00 from Adsense, Chitika et al. all together from other sites in June, so we can't call HP a major contributor, can we? But the game is young, right? People say it takes HP several months to see its best income.
At least I don't have to anxiously await a payout - that money just gets mixed into the rest and will be in my bank account later this month.
I didn't even bother to check Amazon. That gets me maybe a few hundred a year at my main site, so I do not expect much of anything here.
Referrals
HubPages sent 72 visitors to my main site in this period (and that site sent 70 visitors here). That's from Analytics Referring Sites.
Scores
My HubScore reached a high of 96 during this month and has dropped to 94 again as I write this. It goes up and down all the time but hasn't been below 93 in a while.
Watch, I just cursed it, didn't I? It will probably drop to 89 just because I said that!
Individual hubs have reached scores in the low 90's now and then but always seem to drop back into the 80's. The total number of hubs at 80 or better has hit 15, but usually floats just below that.
The overall hub average seems to stay at 73 to 74 always. Total comments is 232, average views per day is 105 right now, but it floats up and down, mostly down.
Total views overall is 2908. I get 250,000 a month at my main site, so that is a very tiny figure.
If you divide 2908 by 34 ( I started on May 28th) , you get a bit less than 100. Of course you can't expect much the first few days, so it must be getting better.
Followers
I have 62 followers and no idea how many were genuine fans and how many were hoping for a follow back. I do follow back unless their stuff is really bad.
There are 22 fan mails and again I don't know how many express genuine sentiment versus just fishing for reciprocity. When I leave fan mail, I mean it. The fan mail also had 4 thanks, 5 good writer, 2 you're cool, and 1 great hubs. Again, honesty is unknown.
Trackers
That URL Trackers page says 947 traffic views and every other column is zero. I have no idea how that relates to the Analytics figures i quoted above.
Other Activity
Let's see, I have made 227 posts in the forums. I don't see a place where my Answers are counted but I have done a bunch and been rated up as high as 4 for some. Is that good? I have no idea.
Useful or What?
Sheesh, I almost forgot that stuff.
HUB FEEDBACK: 11 Useful, 5 Funny, 4 Awesome, 7 Beautiful
Helpful?
I hope this helps and I hope other folks will share their one month stats and perhaps try to link them all together so others have something to compare to. Perhaps I'll revisit this idea after six months or a year.

Maybe... but I'm not quite as prolific as you are... :) 72 Hubs in a month? That's impressive!
Should I congratulate you? Perhaps to a novice, I should. But for you, I would say thanks for sharing your vast experience.
I am learning from you.
Always interesting to watch the progress of others as it helps to see if we're all on the same track, or a better one.
On the note that HP takes a bit to start generating higher revenues from Adsense, I would agree with that. So far, I'd say HP generates much more traffic than I ever was able to acheive through say, Blogspot.
Thanks for your appraisal - especially sense you have had success with the internet previously it is very useful - I appreciate it - for the record I follow you because you write some really neat stuff :)

Hey man, you have done a really great job in almost no time.
I've been in Hubpages for over a month and still not reached my tenth hub.
I've been here about a month as well! I wish I could say I had 72 hubs under my belt, but real life takes up too much of my time right now. Good job! I really do enjoy reading your posts. :)
Thanks for the interesting hub! I noticed your comment about AdSense etc. income from other sites and wondered if you would let us know what kind of other sites are generating such numbers? Are they blogs and/or similar things to hubpages.com?
I liked your first month experience. Though I dont have that much interesting experience with Hubpages I will also share it one day.
Well, it's good to know that my own conclusions to date are on-track. Your thoughts expressed here mirror my own; I'm just not as prolific. Thanks for the validation.

Great Hub! It's good to hear someone else's experience. Thanks for sharing that... and I do (honestly) hope that you revisit this topic in 6 months and a year!
